Secondary infertility after 40: the missing piece was his sperm, not her eggs

by | Sep 19, 2026 | Male Factor Infertility, Secondary Infertility, Success Stories

Secondary infertility hits differently, especially once you have turned 40.

Age gap between siblings becomes bigger than you wanted, a third baby seems less likely and an unexpected only child fear sears through your mind daily.

That is where this couple found themselves having conceived their first baby easily at 38. Now in their early 40s, they found themselves in an IVF clinic getting checked. His semen analysis came back as having low morphology, making it more difficult for the sperm to penetrate the egg. The clinic were happy to proceed as they could use ICSI to get around the problem, but had no option for resolving it. They did point out that due to her ‘advanced age’, egg quality would likely be an issue.

Due to her school term hours, IVF was not something they could commit to until the summer holidays so they were facing even more delay. That was when they started to work with Now Baby.

Men make new sperm every day, but they are not mature enough to fertilize an egg until they have been through a 3 month development cycle. This is when sperm count, motility, morphology and DNA integrity are built. It is a biologically active process that can be supported with targeted nutrition. Their nutrition protocol covered both of them, all the way through the sperm development lifecycle and the egg maturation process and chromosome arrangement. There was no waiting, no time off work, no invasive procedure, just nourishment and the metabolic stability that every egg and sperm relies on during their development.

They got their 2 blue lines within months, long before IVF had to be considered again, mama had her much wanted VBAC (vaginal birth after C section) and that meant no long wait to try for baby #3. Following the same protocol, now aged 44 they welcomed their daughter after the two boys.
