This mama was 43 and had been trying for her first baby for more than two years.
She had experienced an early miscarriage the previous year and was nervous about becoming pregnant again. The positive test she desperately wanted would also bring the fear of another loss.
After two unsuccessful months of Clomid, she began her third round at the same time as the Now Baby Over 40 Fertility Nutrition Protocol.
She had been told any pregnancy would be high risk
She was taking medication for high blood pressure and had a high BMI. She had been warned that her blood pressure, weight and age would make any pregnancy high risk.
Her work as a nurse added another challenge. She worked shifts, ate very little protein and drank up to three cans of Coke Zero each day. The small amount of water she drank was flavoured with a cordial containing endocrine-disrupting chemicals.
She had no idea that her daily diet could affect the metabolic and nutritional environment in which an egg develops or the resources available during the earliest weeks of pregnancy.
After more than two years of trying, an early miscarriage and two unsuccessful rounds of Clomid, she did not appear to have much in her favour.
Yet.
Her third round of Clomid ended differently
After completing that third round, she sent this message:
“Hi Claire,
Want to let you know I did a pregnancy test over the weekend & it’s positive. Excited and nervous at the same time.”
She believed the change in her diet had made a difference. She continued following the protocol while she waited for her 12-week scan.
When the scan reassured her that the pregnancy was progressing, she recommitted to the diet for the rest of her pregnancy. She was keen to support her body and minimise the pregnancy complications she had been warned about.
She also moved away from shift work, giving her body a more consistent routine in which to rest, eat and nourish her growing baby.
She welcomed her first baby at 44
Age over 40. High BMI. High blood pressure. Shift work. A previous miscarriage. More than two years of trying.
These were genuine risk factors, but they were not the end of her story.
At 44, she welcomed a healthy baby boy.
The Now Baby Over 40 Fertility Nutrition Protocol gives you a targeted 90-day structure for the period in which the egg and sperm are developing. It supports the protein, nutrient and metabolic requirements behind chromosome separation, fertilisation, implantation and early pregnancy—so age is not the only part of your fertility being considered.
